Summary
Responsible to perform first piece, in-process, final, and receiving inspections to verify conformance of product to customer specifications. Inspections are performed by using basic inspection tools to compare parts, materials, and products to drawings or specifications for the purpose of making accept or reject decisions. Responsible to identify, segregate, and process suspect product or materials as needed and participate in sorting or reworking the same when required. Notification to pertinent personnel of any defective conditions found is required continually, for the purpose of rectifying said conditions and maintaining quoted scrap rates. Responsible to perform visual inspections at various work stations and enter production scrap counts hourly into company management system (IQMS). Detailed inspection records and continual communication are required to be maintained, as well as preservation of all quality related samples and retention products. Support the ISO9001 Business Management System (BMS). Perform all other quality related activities as defined in this designated Job Description. This position has the authority to provide disposition for shipment, stop and report any process that is producing nonconforming product, and report to management any safety violations.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Understand Midgard’s Quality Policy as it relates to your job.
- Read and interpret drawings/blueprints, and utilize inspection tools both efficiently and effectively, including calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, pin gages, height gages, etc.
- Perform visual, dimensional, and functional testing/inspection as per established instructions and procedures for first piece, in-process, and final requirements on product, completing inspection data and records, as well as communicating the outcome of such inspections. These testing and inspection processes are performed for accept or reject decisions.
- Perform hourly visual inspections at workstations, verifying processes are being followed as per instructions and resulting product meets specifications.
- On an hourly basis, use tablet to verify work orders are in the 1st position in IQMS, the process cycle times are being met, and then enter scrap data into IQMS to provide real-time production information. Notify the shift Production Supervisor if there is a scrap rate higher than the standard scrap percentage on the Work Order, if cycle times aren’t being met, or if there are any issues found during process verification.
- Identify, establish, maintain and preserve first piece parts from each molding production lot, as well as quality samples (tagged, bagged, or on boards), for immediate retrieval and availability.
- Ensure all production and quality samples are provided at each workstation as applicable, before or at the time of start up. Return all samples to designated locations at the end of production runs.
- Maintain a daily QA Log for any pertinent information related to production issues and/or changes.
- Perform a walk-thru of the facility with oncoming quality personnel, reviewing parts together and communicating any issues or changes incurred through the shift.
- Identify, segregate, and process suspect product or materials as per procedure and participate in sorting or reworking the same when required. Continual communication in these instances is required for production purposes.
- Notify pertinent personnel (supervisors, operators, management, and quality) of any defective conditions found during production, for the purpose of rectifying said conditions and maintaining quoted scrap rates. Provide any historical visual and testing data as needed to assist with processing decisions.
- Participate in company sponsored training, continuous improvement and team activities.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Qualification Requirements
To perform this job successfully, the individual must be able to display proficiency in blue print and drawing reading, and the use of all measuring devices. Must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily and have factory experience, good trouble shooting skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with all fellow employees in a manner that fosters a “teamwork” environment. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and ability required.
- Education and/or Experience:
A high school diploma or equivalent is a minimum requirement. Advanced education is desired. The associate must have experience working with and understanding production procedures, have the ability to comprehend detailed written instructions, and be proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel. Quality Assurance experience preferred.
Must know how to read and write English. All paperwork requirements must be in English.
Ability to work with basic mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Ability to define problems, set priorities and react to multitask situations in an efficient manner.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk, stand and reach with hands and arms. Lifting of up to 30 lbs. is required. Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and machinery. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
